National Organizations
Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID)
The national professional membership organization for interpreters and transliterators working in various settings including spoken English and sign language. RID establishes national standards for certification and professional practice.
National Association of the Deaf (NAD)
The oldest and largest organization of deaf and hard of hearing individuals in the United States. NAD is a civil rights organization that advocates for the full participation of all deaf and hard of hearing individuals in society.
American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA)
A national professional, scientific, and credentialing association for audiologists, speech-language pathologists, and speech, language, and hearing scientists.
Texas Organizations
Texas Society of Interpreters for the Deaf (TSID)
A state affiliate chapter of RID, TSID serves interpreters and transliterators working in Texas. Stella Ashley, Director of MIS, currently serves as President of TSID.
North Central Texas Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (NCTRID)
A regional chapter of RID serving the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and surrounding North Central Texas counties. MIS staff members are active members and past officers of NCTRID.
Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services (DHHS)
Formerly the Texas Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (TCDHH), DHHS is a division of the Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services that administers the Board for Evaluation of Interpreters (BEI) certification program in Texas.
Texas Association of the Deaf (TAD)
The state chapter of the National Association of the Deaf, TAD advocates for the rights of deaf and hard of hearing Texans in education, employment, and access to services.
Interpreter Training Programs in the D/FW Area
Eastfield Community College
Offers an AAS Degree in Interpreting for the Deaf. MIS Director Stella L. Ashley is an alumna of Eastfield's interpreter training program, and MIS staff members serve on the advisory committee for the program.
Collin County Community College
Offers an AAS Degree in Interpreting. Several MIS staff members and Interpreter Coordinator Tennie Smithey are current students or graduates of Collin County's interpreting program.
El Centro Community College
Part of the Dallas County Community College District, El Centro offers legal assisting and other career programs.

Job Accommodation Network (JAN)
Provides free consulting services for workplace accommodations and the ADA, helping employers and employees understand their rights and responsibilities.

State agency charged with facilitating a state where people with disabilities enjoy the same rights and opportunities as other Texans.
